That afternoon, Erin was out riding Shimmer and Alex met with Natalie, Alex’s stylist, and the famous fashion designer, Madeleine Boujard, to discuss and plan their wedding outfits. Madeleine was a glamorous French woman with impeccable Parisian style. She would be over sixty years old now but barely looked a day over 45. Alex had often worn Madeleine’s designs, and she had never been in any doubt that she would have Madeleine design her wedding dress.

“So, Mon Petit, tell me what you are thinking?” Madeleine had always called Alex mon petit, it meant my little one and Alex had always enjoyed the term of endearment. So many people got hung up on calling her Ma’am or Your Majesty, and while it was indeed the correct way to address her, Alex liked people who weren’t afraid to mix it up.

“Well, obviously white, but I am thinking lace. We need to stay conservative, but we also need magical Princess.”

“Mon Petit, I have some exquisite light Chantilly Lace. Here, let me show you.” Madeleine’s assistant went straight to the rails they had brought with them and produced a roll of beautiful white lace. Alex fell in love with it straightaway.

“Take off your dress and step onto the step,” Madeleine commanded, indicating the wooden block she always had Alex stand on for fittings. Alex slipped her dress off over her head. She had worn simple white underwear and a strapless bra so Madeleine could do her work.

“Oh, I love that lace. It is so delicate. It will be perfect on you,” Natalie said, admiring the fabric.

Madeleine worked quickly with nimble tanned fingers pinning lace and white silk around Alex’s body.

Dress fittings for so many were a necessary evil, but Alex adored them, she was fascinated by the process. She loved the different looks that could be created quickly with pins and fabric. She admired the incredible talent of the designers and also her stylist. They could make things happen with fabric.

They tried many different adjustments, and two hours later Alex looked in the mirror and knew it was finally right. The skirt was full and with a train. But nothing too big because Alex was petite and a massive skirt would drown her. The dress was backless. The shoulders and long sleeves were made of the light delicate lace across Alex’s skin. It was sexy yet conservative yet still fairytale princess all at the same time.

Natalie met Alex’s gaze and smiled knowingly. She knew Alex and her taste so well at this stage that no words needed to pass between them.

Madeleine stood back with her arms folded and admired her handiwork.

“Mon Petit, we are ready.”

And they were ready, Alex knew for sure. She had to pinch herself to believe it. This was her wedding dress for her own Royal wedding. She was going to marry Sergeant Erin Kennedy and she couldn’t wait.
